History: Jawai
Jawai occupies a special place in our heritage, which dates back to the Prehistoric times. During the Vedic era, a sage by the name of Maharshi Javali sought refuge here for meditation. This town served as one of the Pandavas’ temporary havens during their banishment.
In 120 AD, King Kanishka captured the Pali regions of Jaitaran and Rohat. Later, King Harshvardhan of the Chalukya dynasty began to rule over Jaitaran and Rohat around the end of the 7th century AD.
Due to internal strife, the Rajput’s fought valiantly to drive out the Mughals after their arrival. Pali and all the surrounding areas were then under the control of Marwar’s Rathores. And, at the close of the 16th and 17th centuries, the Rathores of Marwar ruled over Pali and the entire surrounding region.
During the mutiny of 1857, the Thakurs of Pali took up arms against the British, and the conflict raged for many days.
The Rabari tribe, which is thought to have originated from Goddess Parvati, now resides in the village. As a result, they admire the goddess and hold to a matriarchal society in which women make the majority of the choices. These people continue to live nomadic lives and have a different bond with animals.
